How can you avoid text messages?

There isn't any technology yet that lets only yourself read your text messages so I would suggest you delete them so no one else could read them or if you are afraid people will read new messages coming in when you are not around, turn your phone off and put a passWord on it so when you want to retrieve your messages you will have to turn your phone on and enter the passWord. You could never leave home without your phone too.
