The poem a 'constable calls' is a memory about Heaney as a young boy, living on his fathers farm. The poem talks about a police officer coming to visit his father on a routine visit to check that he is using his land properly. In the poem young Heaney was scared and intimidated by the police officer as he believed he was going to take his father away due to his up bringing within a catholic family.

I hope this helps :)
