Is there a saint you should pray to when running out of petrol?

Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travellers, so perhaps he is the saint to whom you should pray. According to the Golden Legend (Legenda Aurea) he was a ferryman who took travellers across a river Ford on his shoulders. While carrying a child who was so heavy that he almost sank, it was revealed that the child was Jesus who carried our sins. From this came the name Christopher (Greek: Christ bearer).
