There have been suggestions from time to time that Jesus was not really dead and that he was, for example, only unconscious when taken from the cross. This is a naive attempt to answer the claim that Jesus died but was seen alive three days later, and accepts the Christian thesis that the gospels could not possibly be wrong. A much more straightforward explanation is that the gospel story is wrong, that Jesus was not raised from the dead and was probably not even crucified.
It is a naive suggestion, because as soon as the crucifixion victim becomes unconscious he is unable to support his weight on his legs and will hang limply from his arms. When this happens, the lungs can not work and the victim dies from asphyxiation, with irreversible brain damage within four minutes.
