He had lived longer than any of his English predecessors, he died just days away from his 77th birthday. The next oldest monarch was Elizabeth I, who died aged 69. There was a loud crash, heard by the valent who rushed to the King who was lying on the floor, and lade him on his bed. Minutes before Princess Amelia arrived he died of a ruptured heart.
