The most common superstitions concerning tides state, more deaths occur while the tide is going out and more babies are bone while the tide is coming in.
Some of the lesser known include:
- Fishermen who believe it is unlucky to start any new project when the tide is out.
- Couples married at low tide are believed to not produce children.
- A rising tide is a good time to churn butter, stuff feather pillows, boil water or slaughter pigs.
An ebb tide is best for cutting your hair, taking baths or dressing wounds.
