How do green house gases benefit earth?

green house gases trap the heat from the sun rays and keep the planet warm. they are named so as the effect they produce is similar to the conditions in a greenhouse- they let the short wave energy of the sun enter almost unhindered but do not allow all of the earth's reflected back energy, which is long wave, to go back, thus producing a heating effect.
