Are republic and Republican the same?

In the common, modern usage. republic and Republican are unrelated concepts:

Republic refers to the philosophical idea that a state can and should be organised by the body of citizens. At the end of the day, government will be administered and controlled by the people.

Republican usually refers to the US party whose members, lacking a unified philosophy, may or may not be in support of a republic.
