What happened to Carver father?

George Washington Carver's father, Giles, was an enslaved man who was kidnapped when Carver was an infant. As a result, Carver was raised by his mother, Mary, who was also enslaved. After the Civil War, Carver's mother was freed, but she disappeared, and he never saw her again. Carver was then raised by a white couple, Moses and Susan Carver, who taught him about farming and education.
