In the novel Island of the Blue Dolphins why did the domestic dogs on the island become a wild pack?

It was trying to be wierd!

Here is another possible answer, no Indians were left only Karana. These dogs had to survive, so they became wild. The crazy thing is that it took them almost no time to become wild.
