Why is el Salvador in the southern hemisphere?

El Salvador is in the Southern Hemisphere because it is south of the equator.

That is how the northern and southern hemispheres are set. Any place north of the equator is in the northern hemisphere. Any place south of the equator is in the southern hemisphere.
