If you are going through the trouble of painting your nails, you don’t want the nail varnish chipping off within a few days or, even worse, a few hours. But the cost difference between expensive and cheap is significant. How do you know how much to spend and whether the nail varnish will be good or not?
-Step 1: Color
A good nail varnish will have a vibrant-looking color. If it seems to lack vibrancy or you can see through it, it may be very watery and take several coats to build the color you want. Unless you are looking for a clear nail varnish, look for one with depth and color.
-Step 2: Price
Prices vary wildly, but often there is little difference between expensive nail varnish and cheap. However, a super cheap option will likely chip sooner, unless you cover with a good top coat. Plus, a cheap nail varnish will probably take more coats than its more-expensive counterpart.
-Step 3: Shake it
Good nail varnish often has little balls inside, so when you shake it before using it, the balls mix up the color thoroughly to avoid thick or streaky varnish. You will be able to hear them when you shake the bottle.
-Step 4: Drying time
Some nail varnishes will advertise drying time on the bottle – 60 seconds, etc. - but the quicker they dry, the more chip prone they tend to be. However, you don’t want a vanish that takes half an hour to dry one coat, so look around, and make sure to get an average one.
-Step 5: Brush
If you open your nail varnish and the brush is either really tiny or really big, it isn’t going to be easy to apply, nor will it be quick. Also, some cheap brushes will leave bits of brush all over your nicely painted nails. A good brush will be slender and easy to use
-Step 6: Handle
You will need to hold the handle as you brush, getting one that is a strange shape or not easy to grip will result in mess, so choose one that feels comfortable to hold while you paint your nails.
Once you have found a brand you like, then it is easier to stick with them, and choose from their color range. You don’t have to spend a fortune on nail varnish to get a good result, often the varnishes are all the same anyway.
