Apical meristems :-

Apical meristems are present at the apices(tips) of roots and shoots.

They are concerned with the extension of plant length. They cause increase in plant length, so, they play important role in primary growth..

Lateral meristems :-

Lateral meristems are the meristems present in roots, stems and branches.

In transverse section, there position is away from centre.

Examples :-

Vascular and Cork cambium

Functions :-

Concerned with secondary growth.

Intercalary meristems :-

These are the parts of apical meristems separated by sheet of permanent cells.
