Can you track your lost phone even without a sim card?

iphone will work without a SIM. Can't make calls of course unless you use a service like Skype but all data apps will work if you have a wifi signal. Don't know why other smartphones such as blackberry ask for a PIN first effectively preventing use without a SIM.
