If the business is selling via a website, one needs to incorporate a shopping cart into the website. The shopping cart includes the product catalog and purchasing interface. This will be the pipeline or internet gateway through which the credit card and customer information are sent to the merchant account. If the customer is paying in person, the business needs a credit card swiper whose function is basically the same.
