What is a good size to build a kitchen?

When deciding on the size of a kitchen consider the following:

* how many people will work in it at once? * what appliances or facilities need to be fitted in? * will there be a large number of ingredients, crockery, pans, etc requiring storage? * Are there any specialized tasks that require certain types of space or facilities? Work out the dimensions of each of these, and allow space for someone to pass a person at each workspace (sink, hob, bench etc). This is usually 1200mm or more.

Kitchens are usually best kept compact in the main working area to minimise the walking needed by the cook.
