Who chooses the senate in the US?

In the United States, senators are elected by the voters of their respective states. Each state has two senators, and they serve six-year terms. The elections occur on a staggered basis, with approximately one-third of the Senate up for election every two years. Prior to the 17th Amendment, ratified in 1913, senators were chosen by state legislatures.
