How did the bushmen make fire?

Bushmen, or San people of Southern Africa, traditionally made fire using friction-based methods, typically employing a bow drill or hand drill technique. They would create a small notch in a wooden base and use a wooden spindle, which they would rapidly rotate using a bow or their hands to generate heat. The friction created would eventually produce an ember, which they would then transfer to a bundle of dry grass or other tinder to ignite a flame. This skill was essential for cooking, warmth, and protection.
