Is Simon in Lord of the Flies a protagonist?

Most people would say that Ralph is the protagonist in Lord of the Flies because we experience the island through his eyes. But one can also say that Simon is the protagonist because he stands out in the book. He is the one who discovers the truth about the beast. One of the most important themes in the book, is civilization vs. savagery. Simon stands out because he doesn't representate either like the other boys. Moral is the most important for him and he is the one to discover the thrue evil within the others.
