Is it bad luck to take down your Christmas tree before or after New Year?

It depends on what you believe. With most people seeking good luck or maintaining it, they just don't want to risk it. Personally, I take my Christmas tree down on New Year's Day.

Some people just like to look of the tree in all its splendor of colors and hate to take it down.

If, for some reason, you will be away, and your tree is extremely dry and a fire risk, just take it down. It really doesn't make much difference.

actually i read that you should take it down on January the 6th

i us to take it down by jan 1 but this year it is going to be dec 31 because it is going to be so nice. i want to get it done before it gets to cold
