What types of wood are recyclable?

You can't recycle wood like you recycle aluminum, that is, it is somehow turned into new wood. But you can re-use wood for other things. For example, timber from an old house can be carefully used again in buildings, or for making furniture, or even garden sheds.

Carbon makes up half the weight of all wood. If the wood rots in the forest or in a landfill, then the carbon returns to the atmosphere. If the wood is from sustainable logging then it is part of the normal carbon cycle, where carbon moves in and out of the atmosphere. Sustainable timber comes from forests where trees are continuously planted as others are cut down, so there are always more trees growing.
