A dead body should ideally be kept at a temperature of around 34°F (1°C) to 38°F (3°C) to slow down decomposition and preserve the remains for as long as possible. Refrigeration at these temperatures helps to inhibit bacterial growth and maintain the integrity of the body for autopsy or funeral arrangements. In the absence of refrigeration, embalming can also be performed to further delay decomposition.
