It works for some. I was once skrying with some others and observed a small island in a bay. I was puzzled, when I noticed that the island was getting larger. A few moments later, another observer said, 'The tide is going out!'. I've seen some weird stuff that convinces me it 'works', but little that gave me indispensible information. That might be my shortcoming, rather than the technique's.
A Pagan Perspective
Scrying is the art of reading the future using any one of dozens of means.
You can use cards (playing of specialty cards including Tarot), a dark mirror, a crystal ball, the lines on a person's hand, the bumps on a person's head, the images in a fire or in water, you can use trance work or interpret dreams and that's just scratching the surface.
As to is it real, yes. Many people can and do read the future in any one of the above mentioned manners and in many that were not mentioned.
Scrying is not a 100% thing, as the future is malleable.
The further the foreseen events are from the time of the scrying (or reading) the more likely that it will be "different" from the reading.
In scryings for a close time there will be subtle differences, while scryings for events in the longer (and distant) future will vary notably from the reading.
