Some kids react to bullying by considering themselves weak and powerless, and self-abuse is just a psychological reaction to many types of emotional upset. It is important to establish that the problem is with the bullies, not the bullied, and they should face discipline, along with their parents, for inflicting harm on other, weaker kids. In some cases, bullying results from being bullied, and teachers and social service personnel should be trained to identify problems with children in situations involving abuse.
Often, it requires some amount of bravery to confront bullies, but it is the most effective way to stop them.
