Is it illegal to jailbreak your apple device?

The jailbreaking in itself is not illegal.

The jailbreaking in itself just allows you to modify your iPod Touch/iphone settings so you can customize it to your liking beyond normal setting restrictions. This part of the jailbreaking is completely legal.

However, downloading any app that normally requires payment for free is illegal. This part of the jailbreaking is completely illegal.
