What is the motifs and symbols in the book the tenth man?

Time, Identity, Choice, and Chance are all major motifs in The tenth man- Time is shown in the counting of minutes by the prisoners in the first part (whoever holds time is God). Identity is shown in the various names Chavel and others go by (you can change your name, but you can't change your nature). Choice is shown in Janvier's deciding to die rather than waste away (People are free to chose their destanys within the scope of their situation).
