Why did Keller use the simile Aaron's rod with flowers?

Helen Keller used the simile "Aaron's rod with flowers" to describe how her mind bloomed and blossomed once she gained language and the ability to communicate effectively. Just like Aaron's rod in The Bible that miraculously blossomed with flowers, Keller's mind flourished and expanded with knowledge and understanding.
