It is very hard to Diagnois a peticular problum... but it may just be that your transmission is low on fluid. I dont mean to insult your intelligents, but this could be overlooked.
If the trans if full, and it still wont shift, there is probably a bigger problum, and it need to be pulled into a shop, or have them come tow it in.
They will then hook your trans to a computer and it will tell the tech exactly what fault codes it is showing.
You can go from there.
BEWARE!!! many shops will know that they "have you" because the vehical has been towed in, and you probably dont want to pay to tow it somewhere else.
ASK THE TECH TO SHOW YOU "EXACTLY" WHAT FAULT CODES IT IS SHOWING, AND GET A SECOND OPINION FROM A DIFFERENT SHOP!!!!!!!!!
MANY transmission problems can be fixed "WITHOUT" A REBUILD!!
THERE ARE MANY SHOPS THAT PREY ON PEOPLE THAT DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, OR IF YOU ACT LIKE YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON.
UNLESS YOU HAVE LOTS OF MONEY... GET INVOLVED ... KNOW YOUR TRANS.... ITS NOT THAT HARD.
Get the exact fault codes and get another quote from a smaller shop, or ask someone about a shop they have used and trust.
"DO NOT TAKE THE SHOPS Word THAT YOU IMMEDITLY NEED A REBUILD!!!"
THATS HOW MANY SHOPS WORK... ITS NOT RIGHT, BUT ITS TRUE.
And if it is a standard transmission, the clutch is out of adjustment, the clutch reservoir is empty of hydraulic fluid (if applicable) or the clutch is worn out.
