Iron tools were more difficult for the Egyptians to obtain than copper due to the scarcity of iron ore and the more complex process required to extract and work with iron. While copper was relatively abundant and could be smelted at lower temperatures, iron required higher temperatures and more advanced techniques for smelting and forging. Additionally, the knowledge and technology for ironworking were not as developed in ancient Egypt during the early periods when copper was more commonly used. This made iron a less accessible resource compared to copper.
