Where were the Tamil tigers located?

The Tamil Tigers, also known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), were mainly located in northern and eastern Sri Lanka. They fought for an independent Tamil state in these regions from 1983 until their defeat in 2009.
