How many raccoons are on earth?

There are three recognized species of raccoon:Procyon lotor - The common raccoon, also known as the northern raccoon, has a natural range from southern Canada to Panama.

Procyon cancrivorus - The tropical crab-eating raccoon ranges from Costa Rica through most areas of South America east of the Andes down to northern Argentina and Uruguay.

Procyon pygmaeus - the Cozumel Island raccoon, is native to Cozumel Island off the Atlantic coast of Yucatan.

There are other raccoons that were once thought to be separate species but are now considered as subspecies of the common raccoon.
