What is the world record for the 1600 meter dash?

Hicham el Guerrouj with time of 3:43.13 That is actually his world record for the mile, 9.35 meters longer than 1600 m, but the second best time for that distance--the only time anybody has been close to el Guerrouj in his string of record progressions was in that race, Noah Ngeny, and el Guerrouj was in the lead at 1600 m as well. This race was a second faster than any other race in history.
