Where was Christopher Columbus born?

Christopher Columbus (born Cristoforo Colombo1451-1506) was born in the Republic of Genoa, 31 October 1451. Genoa was one of the city states that later joined to form Italy.

His father was Domenico Colombo, a weaver and cheese merchant. His mother was Susanna Fontanarossa Colombo. His older brother Bartolomeo was a cartographer and Christopher became a sailor and navigator as well.
