How did technology affect the way the war was fought?

World War II's course was dramatically affected by inventions, technologies, and strategic innovations and theories of all kinds. As one example, the mass-formations of armored vehicles coupled with air-support and motorized infantry led to 'lightning warfare' for both sides of the conflict, thus rendering World War II quite different from World War I. As another example, the technological innovation of the atomic bomb proved to be the decisive answer to Japan's will to resist while also signaling the beginning of an entire new age in the history of humankind.
