From what I have seen, MLB wants what I would call "substantial" organizations with marketing and "staying power" to market anything having to do with MLB. I suspect the same for the NFL, NBA, etc. It does make sense. However, I would like to know how a "little guy" can get his product consideration by a Licensee. I have an Idea for a Cubs shirt. Every Cubs' fan that I have shown it to, wants one. However, I can't get the attention of MLB, The Cubs or any licensee. What do i do?
Good answer and if you want highly detailed information from someone who was a MLB (and NFL and NHL) licensee. check out "An Insider's Guide to the World of Licensed Sports Products in 12 Parts: Practical Lessons from the Trenches" which can be found at http://licensedsports.blogspot.com/2012/03/introduction-to-insiders-guide-to-world.html . The author of that blog works with entrepreneurs who have ideas for licensed sports products. In some cases the answer lies in getting your own license (hard work, time consuming, costly) and in other cases the answer lies with working with an existing licensee.
