Before the Market Revolution, women mainly cared for the home and family while men worked to provide. The revolution gave women a chance to use their talents to helped bring in more income and provide more options for their families. Some women began a home-based business and sell items like eggs, milk, butter, or sugar and sometimes homemade crafts. Some got jobs in the town as sewers or tailors in clothing shops.
