What is it called when something is passed in to a law?

When something is passed into law, it is referred to as "enactment." This process occurs after a bill has been proposed, debated, and approved by the legislative body, such as a parliament or congress, and then ratified by the executive, such as a president or governor. Once enacted, the bill becomes a legally binding statute.
