What is the law that divided reservation land among individual Native Americans?

In 1887, Congress passed the Dawes Act. Instead of giving whole parcels to tribes, they gave allotments to individuals. After the allotments were handed out, they gave whatever was leftover to white settlers. Indians lost about two-thirds of their land.
