When Mount Pelée erupted on May 8, 1902, it devastated the nearby town of Saint-Pierre, resulting in the deaths of approximately 30,000 people. However, there were a few survivors; notably, only about 2,000 people escaped the disaster. The eruption was one of the deadliest volcanic events in history, and the majority of the population did not survive.
