When designing websites, the choice of fonts is very limited - remember that the website will be viewed on many different computers, so it's difficult to predict what fonts will actually be available. When a website requests a font that isn't present on the target machine, the browser will try and pick a similar font. Unsurprisingly, this doesn't always work in an ideal way. The two fonts you can pretty much guarantee to find on virtually all machines are a Times Roman (Times New Roman on Windows); Times is a serif font, often used for newspapers as it allows a high number of characters per inch - saving paper. The other common font is Aerial
a matter of taste, personally I prefer Aerial.
