Why did the shepherds give Jesus the gifts?

The Bible does not indicate that the shepherds brought any gifts to Jesus(Luke 2:7-20). They were just thrilled to see this amazing fulfillment of prophecy (Isaiah 9:6)(Isaiah 19:20).
