Why is converse a iconic design?

Largely due to an endorsement from Basketball player Charles "Chuck" Taylor. Taylor promoted the shoes, and people began wearing their "chucks" as leisure shoes, rather than specifically as athletic shoes. In 1932, Converse printed Taylor's name on the ankle patch, creating the iconic design that has remained mostly unchanged for nearly a century.
