Answer

If you receive a DWI in Texas and have previously been convicted of DUI, OVI, OMVI, or similarly named offense in another state, this may count as a previous conviction for DWI. You can face additional penalties under Sec. 49.09. of the Texas Penal Code.

Additionally, forty-five of our states participate in an Interstate Driver's License Compact (barring Wisconsin, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Tennessee). This means that the states share information about DWI convictions and your home state will also be appraised of the situation.
