When was the company FedEx founded?

The FedEx that is commonly used today was officially incorporated on October 2, 1997. However, before the company was FedEx, it was called Federal Express. Fred Smith, who was the founder, came up with the idea for Federal Express while writing a paper at Yale University. After writing his paper arguing what is commonly known today as "time is money", he founded Federal Express Corporation in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1971.
