An epidural bleed, or epidural hematoma, is a type of brain hemorrhage that occurs between the outer protective layer of the brain (the dura mater) and the skull. It is often caused by a traumatic head injury that ruptures blood vessels, leading to the accumulation of blood in this space. Symptoms may include headache, confusion, dizziness, and loss of consciousness, and it can rapidly increase intracranial pressure. Prompt medical intervention is critical, as it can be life-threatening if not treated quickly.
