What is the difference between equipment and furnishings?

Equipment means the various objects needed to accomplish some given task, for example, the equipment used by fire fighters includes fire extinguishers, fire trucks, hoses and ladders and axes. None of those would be considered furnishing, even though a fire extinguisher may well be kept at home. Furnishings are like furniture, but they include other decorative objects. Carpets, pictures hung on walls, and curtains on Windows are all furnishings, but not furniture. Couches, tables, beds, etc., are furniture, and are also furnishings.
