Why is a blue moon a rare event?

Because it takes a while for the moon to fully orbit the earth. Then, it has to be exactly 90 degrees toward the sun and that doesn't happen very often. But when the moon is fully orbited around the sun and exactly 90 degrees towards the sun, we get a blue moon.
