What do Men wear in a formal occasion?

well............ not an expert on this stuff.

Actually just surfed the internet for that question and couldent find anything normally for smart occasions I would wear a suit if have one? If not mabye black satin jeans and a quite smart top to go with but I think first choice a suit.
