What was different and unique about Hey Jude?

In the early 50s or late 60s, Paul McCartney wrote a silly song about scrambled eggs, eventually he decided to change the lyrics into a more meaningful song(with the same tune) called Yesterday. Not to mention, it is one of the most covered songs in history.
