How did God come into this world?

Whereas God spoke to man on various occasions as recorded in the Old Testament, in the New Testament, it reveals that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ. In Matthew 1:23, we are told: "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

Throughout the New Testament, it declares that Jesus is God come in the flesh: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:1-3. Then in verse 14, we see: "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." This is obviously speaking of Jesus Christ, the second person of the Godhead, who came into this world.

This occurred by the Holy Spirit bringing Jesus Christ into the womb of Mary to be born. Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel, who announced that she would have a son, called Jesus (meaning "Savior"). Mary was troubled, because she was still a virgin, having not been with a man. She asked Gabriel, "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" Luke 1:34. In verse 35, we see: "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

In that well-known verse, John 3:16, it tells us that God sent His Son into the world: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Jesus would later tell His disciples, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father...Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The Words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works." John 14:9,10.

Many other times, Jesus declared Himself God, as does the rest of the New Testament. "God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." 1 Timothy 3:16.
